PortableApps logoThis week my computer died. I’ll be spending the next several weeks recovering all my data, but in the meantime, I have had to use many different computers to get my work done. It’s problematic keeping all my documents in one place. Sure, I could just email myself the documents I work on, but then I have to make sure I’m not using a different version next time I work on that project. Fortunately for me, I recently discovered a hand solution to this problem: PortableApps. This suite of software is installed on a USB drive that you can take with you wherever you go and will work on any Windows computer.

Gizmo Call

Gizmo Call logoLast year I compared Gizmo Project and Skype, two VoIP (voice over IP) services that offered free calls to computers and some domestic phones and inexpensive international calls. The competition has been heating up, but Skype continues to have a larger market share.

That may all change with Gizmo Call, the latest product from Gizmo Project. Gizmo Call requires no software, no registration, and no money. And it’s dead easy to use. This is exactly what I want in a calling service.
